"'People have forgotten this truth', the fox said. 'But you musn't forget it. You become responsible forever for what you've tamed. You're responsible for your rose.'"

dictionaryofobscuresorrows:

n. the tendency to give up trying to talk about an experience because people are unable to relate to it—whether through envy or pity or simple foreignness—which allows it to drift away from the rest of your life story, until the memory itself feels out of place, almost mythical, wandering restlessly in the fog, no longer even looking for a place to land.

asker What do you think of Terry Richardson?

I like half his work. I think the controversy surrounding him is only half true, like with most artists. Based on what my NYC friends say about him, I think he’s alright. He’s not this horrid misogynistic monster.

asker What do you think of the article "an open letter to england" by Cheryl Bartolo, a Filipino?

I think she represents a lot of Filipinos who aren’t good with assimilating into other countries. I don’t know if it’s a good or bad thing because I’m on the other end of the spectrum. I can blend in easily, I have no desire to watch Filipino TV or be around Filipinos (but I look for my food), and I have no accent/language issues. I always tell the people I meet that I’m not a good representative of my country. Filipinos are generally positive, hospitable, and proud of their country. I don’t get sensitive when foreigners are critical of the Philippines. I’m critical of all countries anyway.

What she said about England is true, though. The weather is depressing, the people are not warm, and there is an undercurrent of racism in their cities. I have very good British friends, but they’re travelers, a different breed. I imagine that most of the British dislike immigrants the way Filipinos dislike Koreans living in the Philippines. My British friends are not like that. However, it took me a while to get used to their small talk and their insults (which they only do with friends, apparently). I’m sure from the outside looking in they seem like assholes, but they’re not.
