My simplest answer is to make traveling your main thing. Get a job that requires traveling, study abroad (tons of scholarships exist), or volunteer for funded initiatives. Everything falls into place after that because you meet other travelers as well.

On funds, I can only talk about me: (1) My family/friends helped me until I turned 20. (2) I used to be part of an angel investor group. (3) I have a damn good broker now.
